Communique from USE
In view of the current the haze situation, USE urges our management partners to issue masks to your staff, giving more attention to security officers who are stationed outdoors and staff with pre-existing heart or respiratory illnesses.
We would also like to highlight that agencies should monitor the 24-hour PSI readings at http://www.haze.gov.sg/ and take preventive actions should the haze situation worsen. This is also in line with the MOM guidelines for the Protection of Employees Against the Effects of Haze at Workplaces (guidelines as attached) which follows the 24-hour PSI reading.
Should the 24-hour PSI readings go above the 100-point mark (where the air quality is deemed unhealthy), please:
1. Discuss with clients to reduce or suspend outdoor patrolling.
2. Deploy employees with heart or respiratory issues indoors.3. Issue respirators to all security officers who have to perform outdoor duties. Agency should reiterate to clients that such duties should be kept to the minimum.
4. Remind all employees to come forward should they feel uncomfortable or unwell during the course of duty. Employees should not be penalised for their absence due to the hazy conditions.
